Re.Vira.Volta – Circular Economy Hub
Re.Vira.Volta is an initiative by Dona Ajuda focused on recycling, reuse, and repurposing, with the goal of giving new life to materials that would otherwise be discarded.
With the support of volunteers and sustainability and circular economy enthusiasts, the project gained momentum and, in 2021, it was presented as the one that received the most votes in the Participatory Budget of the Lisbon City Council.
Currently in full operation, the following initiatives are already taking place at Dona Ajuda’s Environmental and Cultural Space:
- Collection of plastic caps, designated for the Portuguese Association of Parents and Friends of Citizens with Intellectual Disabilities (APPACDM);
- “Paper for Food” campaign, in partnership with the Food Bank Against Hunger;
- Glass Jar Bank, where those who no longer use jars donate them, and those in need can collect them;
- Reuse of cork stoppers, redirected to GreenCork, which promotes reforestation projects in partnership with Quercus and other organizations.
Currently, Re.Vira.Volta is expanding its initiatives, with plans to implement a “Tool Library,” a vertical garden, plastic transformation machines, and new sewing machines, all aimed at promoting the circular economy and educating the community about sustainable practices.
Dona Ajuda continues to develop this project, with several activities in the implementation phase in collaboration with the relevant services of the Lisbon City Council, awaiting the transition from the study phase to the implementation phase.
